10 Ways Not to Lose Your Phone to a Sneaky Thief

Hey #ucofam,
Let’s be real. Petty theft is the uninvited guest in every major city. And while we can’t always dodge sticky situations, we can take a few steps to keep our beloved phones safely in our pockets.
This topic came up recently, and as someone rocking the same phone since the last Ice Age (still holding out for Apple to actually impress me), I thought I’d share my wisdom on this. Here are a few tried-and-true tips for hanging onto your phone:
Crowded spaces? Front pocket only. Channel your inner cholo and keep those hands firmly in your pockets. Hands-free? You’re asking for trouble.
Table temptation, don’t leave it lying there, even if it’s right in front of you.
Ditch the "lost tourist" look. Walking around with your phone out just screams “new here.” We see you, even if your phone’s tucked away.
Avoid the sketchy neighborhoods. Think: Tepito. You’ll get way more than you bargained for.
Moderation, folks! Have your fun but avoid getting so tipsy you don’t know up from down.
Police-free zone. Only approach if you have to. Just trust me on this one.
Stranger danger is real. Mom was right; the tag team is strong with these ones.
Nothing good happens after 2 am. When it’s that late, head back to U-Co and dream about churros instead.
Uber > Random Taxi This isn’t NYC. Skip the hand-waving and grab an app ride, unless it’s an airport cab.
Walk like you own it. Confidence is your friend. Me? I’m basically the mayor of CDMX.
All jokes aside, Mexico City is safe for the most part, but every big city has its quirks. And hey, don’t let the worry keep you from having adventures! Life is meant to be lived, new phones can be bought, but your time? Can’t get that back. Keep your eyes open and enjoy the ride.
Stay safe and keep exploring,
Marco
