Conquer Your Fears: The Power of Tough Conversations

Hey #ucofam!
Are you dreading that conversation with your friend, coworker, partner, or even parent?
Yes, you know which conversation I’m referring to. The one that keeps you up at night, makes you anxious, and possibly gives you a stomach ache.
I know these conversations suck. I used to be just like you—avoiding them at all costs, running away, or even just ‘ignoring’ the problem.
Think about it this way: if you're hiking up a mountain, let’s call this mountain "Life," you want the best tools, gear, and sherpas you can find. You wouldn’t carry a makeup kit or a 27” monitor up the mountain, would you?
It's the same with these unresolved conversations. At some point, you need to get them out of your system, or else that negative energy can eat you alive.
I've gained courage points along the way that have prepared me for the mountain of Life. Some tough conversations I’ve had to face include:
Rejecting an old-time friend
Letting a team member go
Cutting ties with a business partner
Firing a property owner
Kicking a stalker out of the house
Letting a parent go
These, along with many more tough conversations, have developed a skill in me. Even though I still dislike these conversations, I now approach them head-on. Because now I know I will be able to sleep at night knowing that I addressed what was keeping me stuck.
I’m not saying go fire your parent from your life, though maybe you need to, but what I mean is to look for your inner peace. If a person is not in your corner, then you might not need to carry their luggage up the mountain.
Here are a few tips to make these tough conversations easier:
Prepare Ahead: Know what you want to say and stick to the main points.
Choose the Right Time and Place: Find a quiet, private space without interruptions.
Be Honest and Direct: Share your feelings and concerns clearly without beating around the bush.
Stay Calm: Keep your emotions in check and avoid raising your voice.
Listen Actively: Give the other person a chance to share their perspective.
Find Common Ground: Look for solutions that work for both parties.
Follow Up: Check in after the conversation to ensure both sides are moving forward positively.
Trust me when I say this: removing extra weight is the clear path to climbing “Life.” Have these tough conversations. You will not regret it.
Best of luck!
Marco
