Hey #ucofam,
Mexico is much more than just tacos, tequila, and beaches—though I love all those things! Over the years, as I’ve traveled across this country, I’ve realized that Mexico is a vibrant blend of culture, adventure, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Yes, I know I’m Mexican, but a bad one since I didn’t grew up here.
For those of you living here or just passing through as digital nomads, I want to encourage you to explore Mexico in a deeper way. Whether you're looking for new adventures or inspiration, Mexico has so much to offer.
Here are a few places I think you’ll love:
San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas - One of my favorite spots! A quaint town in the highlands with cobblestone streets, colorful markets, and a rich indigenous culture. It’s a great place to disconnect from the hustle and focus on personal growth.
Oaxaca City - A cultural and culinary hub. If you're a foodie or into art and history, Oaxaca is a must-visit. Don't miss the local mezcal distilleries! My wife and I spent a month here. It’s worth spending more than a week here.
Valle de Bravo - A scenic escape a few hours from Mexico City, this is a haven for nature lovers. You can go paragliding, hiking, or just take in the stunning views of the lake. Go unplug from the city life and enjoy a nice walk in nature, time by the lake and enjoy fine dining with amazing views.
Mexico City’s Hidden Gems - Yes, CDMX is massive, but it’s also full of incredible neighborhoods that most tourists miss. Visit the markets in Coyoacán or the art scene in Roma Norte. I cannot say enough about CDMX, you’ll love spending a month in each colonial.
Taxco, Guerrero - Known as the silver capital of Mexico, Taxco is a beautiful colonial town set in the mountains. With its whitewashed buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, and stunning views, it’s the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The town also has a rich history in silver mining, and you can find artisan shops everywhere.
Paquimé, Chihuahua - My home town of Chihuahua! For history buffs, Paquimé is a pre-Columbian archaeological site in northern Mexico that gives you a glimpse into the ancient civilizations that thrived in the desert. The fascinating ruins tell stories of trade, architecture, and culture long before the Spanish arrived. A place where you can connect with history while exploring Mexico’s less-visited northern region.
Yucatán Beyond Cancún - Skip the tourist traps and head to places like Mérida or Valladolid. Explore cenotes, Mayan ruins, and experience true Yucatecan hospitality. Look at these amazing cenotes!
Tepoztlán, Morelos - Known for its mystical vibe, Tepoztlán is a short drive from Mexico City and offers stunning mountain views, traditional markets, and a rich spiritual history. Climbing the Tepozteco pyramid is a must-do for some breathtaking views and a moment of reflection. It’s a great place to recharge. My favorite to get away from the hustle and bustle of CDMX.
Guanajuato, Guanajuato - This vibrant colonial city with colorful houses cascading down the hills is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander through its labyrinth-like alleys, visit the iconic Callejón del Beso, and dive into the local art and cultural scene. It’s perfect for those who want a mix of history and a lively atmosphere.
San José del Pacífico, Oaxaca - Nestled high in the Oaxacan mountains, San José del Pacífico is famous for its breathtaking cloud forests, psychedelic mushroom retreats, and tranquil vibe. Whether you’re looking for a spiritual experience or just want to relax in nature, this magical town offers a unique getaway.
Why Explore Mexico?
Mexico is full of contrasts. You’ll find ancient history standing side-by-side with modern culture, warm beaches, and cool mountain towns. And through each destination, you'll feel the heartbeat of a country that’s constantly evolving.
As a digital nomad, it’s easy to get wrapped up in work and routine. But let Mexico surprise you, there’s something about wandering new streets, tasting unfamiliar flavors, and meeting new people that can reignite your creativity and motivation.
Plus, traveling in Mexico isn't just about fun, it's about embracing new perspectives and finding growth in the unexpected. That’s why U-Co exists: to foster a community of explorers, learners, and creators who thrive through new experiences.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and start your own journey of discovery.
Cheers,
Marco
