Saying NO! Say YES to Yourself

Hey U-Co Fam,
We've all seen Yes Man!—the movie where Jim Carrey’s character initially refuses to say yes to anything. After a life-changing event, he swings to the opposite extreme, saying yes to everything, which leads to sleepless nights of fun.
Culturally in Mexico, saying no can be challenging. We often try to be nice and beat around the bush, even when declining street vendors. We prioritize likability over authenticity. Are we people-pleasing?
If you’re someone who struggles with saying no, here’s why you should:
Focus: Saying no helps you stay engaged with your own goals instead of someone else’s.
Time: Consider if saying yes will benefit you in the long run.
Pleasing: Are you saying yes just to avoid disappointing someone?
Self-Love: Put yourself first and don't let others' agendas derail your dreams and desires.
Fulfillment: Saying no might help fill the void you’ve been looking to fill externally, allowing you to find it within yourself.
If it’s not a "HELL YES," why do it at all? Don’t half-ass a yes. Go for gold.
Yes, I will help you move because I love you and you’re my best friend.
Yes, I will go on that trip with you because spending time together will be an amazing experience.
Yes, I want to start this business with you because we complement each other's strengths and weaknesses.
Yes, I will love you forever, even through the tough times.
Anything short of that might just be giving away your spare time for nothing. It’s okay to say no. Be polite, have your reasons, and stick to your values.
No is not a bad word; it’s just a way of putting yourself first.
Until next time,
Marco

U-Co Polanco is fully booked! We’re thrilled to see a diverse group of people from different backgrounds living together. This project was a bit of a risk since it required stays of 3 months or more, but it worked out beautifully. We’re excited to offer more smaller apartment accommodations, not just for short-term stays but also medium-term options for those who want to be part of the community while staying longer.

❌ You’re wasting hours on freelancer sites, not “creating” your own clients.
❌ You’re doing low-paying work (like blog posts), not delivering outcomes.
