Community
I started U-Co because, once upon a time, I was just like you – a digital nomad wandering through 4 continents in 18 months. My stays in Mexico City, whether in a studio Airbnb or a hostel, left me craving two things: community and a space to be productive. Two years later, U-Co was born from those very needs.
Contemplating my micro problems from Table Mountain, Cape Town back in 2016.
Why am I sharing this? Every day, I see you arrive at U-Co, each with your own mix of emotions – happiness, stress, overwhelm, or sheer excitement for what lies ahead. Like any new place, a new city brings its challenges, or what we've affectionately termed 'micro problems.' Here are just a few:
- Safety concerns
- The loneliness that creeps in
- The language barrier – though starting with ‘hola, me llamo Robert’ isn’t bad!
- Making new friends – and no, Tinder swipes don't count
- Wi-Fi woes – sadly, Elon hasn't got our backs yet
- Water shortages, FML
- Visa runs gone wrong (Vishnu's needs help in Guatemala, folks)
- And taxes – yes, Carl has a peculiar love for them
This list could go on forever. While we can't solve every single issue, we at U-Co have made strides to ensure the basics: a safe place to sleep, a community of like-minded individuals, and a space where productivity blossoms. Having built 4 U-Cos, managed hundreds of units, and hosted thousands of digital nomads worldwide, I constantly find myself pondering: How can we solve today's micro problems for our community? Housing, events, retreats, a marketplace, job listings – it's a lot for our small team to handle alone.
That's why I've decided to turn to you, our community, for help. Use U-Co as your platform to share your passions and tackle these micro problems together, no matter where in the world we are. And in the process, why not make the world a bit better?
Please share with us via this Google Form how you'd like to partner with U-Co. Don't be shy – we all face problems. Sharing them means we can help each other out. After all, isn't that what being a community is all about?
With over 9,000 friends in our network, remember: ‘mi casa es tu casa y mis amigos son tus amigos.’ Together, let's continue making the world a better place, one micro problem at a time.
